Psychological Therapy in Prisons and Other Settings PDF
By:Joel Harvey,Kirsty Smedley
Published on 2012-08-21 by Routledge

This book examines a range of therapeutic approaches used in prisons and other secure settings and explores the challenges in such work. The approaches include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive-Analytic Therapy (CAT), Attachment-Based Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Systemic Psychotherapy. It provides insights into debates about providing therapy in prisons and other secure settings and discusses specific topics such as mental health in-reach teams, working with women in prison, therapy within therapeutic communities and therapy with black and minority ethnic groups. This book addresses developments in mental healthcare by the National Health Service (NHS) within prisons and on-going policy developments which aim to improve access to psychological therapies for prisoners. The contributors draw on experience both in clinical psychology and forensic psychology, as well as psychotherapy and criminology. They draw on experience too in a range of environments, including juvenile and young offender establishments, local prisons and dispersal prisons. Psychological Therapy in Prisons and Other Secure Settings will be essential reading for people who work to improve the psychological wellbeing of individuals in prisons and other secure settings.

Milton H Erickson PDF
By:Jeffrey K Zeig,W Michael Munion
Published on 1999-07-28 by SAGE

`Zeig and Munion have provided us with a lucid insight into the life and work of a 20th century giant, and it is a book full of human warmth and humour. I congratulate you who still have the adventure of exploring Milton H Erickson's story ahead of you' - Hypnos `This offering on Erickson does not set out to uncover new ground, but more to introduce one to Erickson (and the cases are so extraoridinary they are worth repeating anyway). It does this in a number of easy to read sections' - New Therapist `This book is an easily accessible primer for those who are new to studying Ericksonian methods.... its depth provides the reader with the experience of learning about the man, as well as the method' - Milton H Erickson Foundation Newsletter Milton H Erickson provides a unique insight into the life and experiences of this influential figure, and a clear account of his specific contributions to psychotherapy, both theoretical and practical. Erickson was the dominant force in legitimizing the use of clinical hypnosis. Through his research and practice, he developed a scientific understanding of hypnotic phenomena and devised many novel clinical applications. He took the view that psychotherapy should be formulated to meet the uniqueness of an individual's strengths and needs, rather than tailoring the person to fit a particular theoretical approach. His directive and strategic interventions contributed substantially to the development of brief therapy approaches such as strategic therapy, solution-focused therapy, and the interactional approach.

Book Elven Psychology PDF Free

Elven Psychology PDF
By:The Silver The Silver Elves
Published on 2018-07-25 by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform

Elven Psychology: Understanding the Elfin Psyche and the Evolutionary and Esoteric Purpose of Mental Disorders expands the realms of modern psychology, which has never before included the elves and otherkin population as being real. If one says that they are an elf, most psychologists today will still hold you in suspect of having a delusionary disorder and try to evaluate you further. We explain in Elven Psychology why from a standard psychological point of view that believing you are an elf does not in itself constitute a disorder even in traditional psychology, and then we go much further and explore the disorders and psychological struggles that we observe in our modern society in both normal folk and elves/otherkin. This book is written from a unique elven perspective about the present day human condition, which includes an exploration of the psyche of both normal folk and elfae. We elves are elven by spirit, so our entrance into humanity is the addition of a new spiritual race, not a new physical race, and elves have been born in these modern times into all physical races, as well as most cultures and religions throughout the world. In fact, there are many who are following esoteric Ancient Wisdom Traditions, as well as some Tolkienists, who through the process of benevolent evolution, see 'elf as the new normal' or majority of humankind in the not so distant future. So, it is important to update many areas of academia that explore, express, and explain human life; psychology being one of these. In modern times, we Elves and otherkin have reincarnated in human form and thus the human population today has become even more diverse due to our presence. And since elves and otherkin are constantly growing in our own diversity and variations (we are an ever diversifying people), the human populous of which we are now a part is also becoming more varied by the day. This may sound like fiction to the 'normal folk, ' but just ask thousands around the world who understand thems'elves to be elves or otherkin, including all manner of faerie folk, and they will tell you with certainty that it is real. We look toward the future of humankind with our elven souls and know that we must all learn to unite, normal folk and elfae alike, to accept each other for all our uniqueness and beautiful variations. Both authors, Zardoa and Silver Flame, who write under the pen name The Silver Elves, have advanced graduate degrees in Depth Psychology and Art Therapy. We have used our academic and clinical backgrounds as well as life experiences living and sharing the Elven Way for over 40 years to identify a new way of perceiving the struggles of elves and otherkin living in the stressful modern world that sometimes results in psychological discomforts, as well as identifying the disorders of normal folk that have yet to be written about in modern psychology. While these are not the disorders you would find in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) that is published by the American Psychiatric Association as a standard criteria for the classification of mental disorders, in our opinion they need to be included to begin updating clinical psychology to include the existence of elven and faerie folk and our perspective. While we do not really support the use of categories like in the DSM to describe mental discomfort (people are far more complex than to limit our understanding of them by psychological classifications), we are adding the elven perspective and new classifications as a way of updating this important discipline. Since both of us had a number of graduate classes in the study of the DSM required for various clinical psychology degrees, we have long had many discussions together on how the elven perspective has been left out of the DSM. So here in Elven Psychology we share them with you in an often tongue in cheek fashion. If the elves were to write their own DSM, this book would be a good start!

Book Discursive Psychology PDF Free

Discursive Psychology PDF
By:Professor Derek Edwards,Jonathan Potter
Published on 1992-04-08 by SAGE

This accessible text introduces the key elements of a discursive approach to psychology. This focuses on how discourse - naturally occurring talk and text - can be studied and understood as the |accomplishment of social action.| Building on discourse analysis, the authors present an integrated discursive action model which leads to a radical reworking of some of psychology's most central concepts - language, cognition, truth, knowledge and reality. The implications of a discursive perspective for such topics are explored alongside a sustained argument against the perceptual-cognitivist emphasis that currently dominates psychology. A particular theme is the reconceptualization of memory and attribution. The authors examine the communicative and interactional work performed when individuals, with interests, describe and explain past events, construct factual reports and attribute mental states. They draw on a wide range of empirical materials to demonstrate the methods and analysis underpinning their approach. Reframing fundamental issues of language and mind as social practices realized in discourse, Discursive Psychology offers a profound challenge to existing orthodoxies while also establishing an exciting new agenda in the social and human sciences.

Between Good and Evil PDF
By:Roger L. Depue,Susan Schindehette
Published on 2005-02-01 by Grand Central Publishing

He was a pioneer in modern law enforcement, a trailblazing leader in the hunt for serial killers. But after decades of staring deep into the darkness, he entered a seminary to search for the good... BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL No one gets closer to evil than a criminal profiler, trained to penetrate the hearts and minds of society's most vicious psychopaths. And no one is a more towering figure in the world of criminal profilers than Roger L. Depue. Chief of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit at a time when its innovative work first came to prominence, he headed a renowned team of mind hunters that included John Douglas, Robert Ressler, and Roy Hazelwood. In a subbasement sixty feet under the Academy gun vault in Quantico, he broke new ground with analytical techniques and training programs that are still used today. After retiring from the FBI, he founded an elite forensics group that consulted on high-profile cases, including the Martha Moxley and JonBenet Ramsey murders, and the Columbine school shootings. But coming face-to-face with the darkest deeds human beings are capable of took a horrific toll. After suffering a devastating personal loss, Depue, on the brink of despair, walked away from the outside world and joined a seminary. For three years this was his safe haven, a place where he exorcised personal demons and found a refuge from terrifying memories of real-life monsters. And it was there, while counseling maximum security inmates, that he rediscovered the capacity for goodness in people, and made the decision to return to the world to resume his work. Here is Depue's extraordinary personal account, from growing up as a police officer's son to tracking down some of today's most brutal murderers. With its harrowing descriptions of human depravity and passionate call to fight against evil, BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL is both a riveting dispatch from the front lines of a war against human predators...and the powerful story of one man's journey between darkness and redemption.

Published on 2015-01-01 by Cengage Learning

Through a thoughtful and accurate balance of developmental, clinical-diagnostic, and experimental approaches to child and adolescent psychopathology, Eric Mash and David Wolfe's ABNORMAL CHILD PSYCHOLOGY remains the most authoritative, scholarly, and comprehensive book in its market. This edition has been organized and updated to reflect DSM-5 categories, as well as dimensional approaches to classification and evidence-based assessment and treatment. Accessible to a broad range of readers, the book traces the developmental course of each disorder. It also shows how child psychopathology involves biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors interacting with a child's environment. Case histories, case examples, and first-person accounts are at the heart of the text, illustrating the categorical and dimensional approaches used to describe disorders and bringing life to the theories discussed. The authors also consistently illustrate how troubled children behave in their natural settings: homes, schools, and communities.
