Book Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy PDF Free

Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy PDF
By:Gerald Corey
Published on 2012-01-01 by Cengage Learning

Incorporating the thinking, feeling, and behaving dimensions of human experience, the ninth edition of Corey's best-selling text offers an easy-to-understand text that helps students compare and contrast the therapeutic models expressed in counseling theories. Corey introduces students to the major theories (psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, family systems, feminist, and postmodern approaches) and demonstrates how each theory can be applied to a single case (Stan). With his trademark style, he shows students how to apply those theories in practice, and helps them learn to integrate the theories into an individualized counseling style. This book is the center of a suite of products that includes a revised student manual, Case Approach to Counseling and Psychotherapy (2013), The Art of Integrative Counseling (2013) and media resources like the DVDs titled DVD for Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy: The Case of Stan and Lecturettes, and DVD for Integrative Counseling: The Case of Ruth and Lecturettes, which features the same videos as the Integrative Counseling CD-ROM redesigned for today's classrooms. Forensic Psychology Reconsidered PDF
By:David Polizzi,Matthew R. Draper
Published on 2015-10-30 by Routledge

Forensic psychology is where psychology meets the criminal justice system. An understanding of the intersection of criminal law and psychological issues relating to criminal responsibility is critical for criminal justice students. This accessible text focuses on the criminal law implications of forensic psychology as it relates to topics such as competency to stand trial, state of mind at the time of the crime, suicide by cop, and involuntary psychiatric medication administered in custody. Unlike more traditional texts on this topic, which are primarily concerned with the clinical practice of forensic psychology, this book focuses on critical thinking as it relates to these topics. Each chapter presents a critical analysis of the topic under study, going beyond merely identifying the legal parameters of criminal responsibility to explore the ethical, philosophical, and theoretical foundations of that concept.

Book Opening Skinner's Box: Great Psychological Experiments of the Twentieth Century PDF Free

Opening Skinner's Box: Great Psychological Experiments of the Twentieth Century PDF
By:Lauren Slater
Published on 2005-02-17 by W. W. Norton & Company

Through ten examples of ingenious experiments by some of psychology's most innovative thinkers, Lauren Slater traces the evolution of the century's most pressing concerns—free will, authoritarianism, conformity, and morality. Beginning with B. F. Skinner and the legend of a child raised in a box, Slater takes us from a deep empathy with Stanley Milgram's obedience subjects to a funny and disturbing re-creation of an experiment questioning the validity of psychiatric diagnosis. Previously described only in academic journals and textbooks, these often daring experiments have never before been narrated as stories, chock-full of plot, wit, personality, and theme.

Book The Novel After Theory PDF Free

The Novel After Theory PDF
By:Judith Ryan
Published on 2011-12-13 by Columbia University Press

Novels began to incorporate literary theory in unexpected ways in the late twentieth century. Through allusion, parody, or implicit critique, theory formed an additional strand in fiction that raised questions about the nature of authorship and the practice of writing. Studying this phenomenon provides fresh insight into the recent development of the novel and the persistence of modern theory beyond the period of its greatest success. In this book, Judith Ryan opens these questions to a range of readers, drawing them into debates over the value of theory. Ryan investigates what prompted fiction writers to incorporate and respond to theory nearly thirty years ago. Designed for readers unfamiliar with the complexities of theory, Ryan's book introduces the discipline's major trends and controversies and notes the salient ideas of a carefully selected set of individual thinkers. Ryan follows novelists' adaptation to and engagement with arguments drawn from theory as they translate abstract ideas into language, structure, and fictional strategy. At the core of her book is a fascinating microstudy of French poststructuralism in its dialogue with narrative fiction. Investigating theories of textuality, psychology, and society in the work of Don DeLillo, Thomas Pynchon, J. M. Coetzee, Margaret Atwood, W. G. Sebald, and Umberto Eco, as well as Monika Maron, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Marguerite Duras, Marilynne Robinson, David Foster Wallace, and Christa Wolf, Ryan identifies subtle negotiations between author and theory and the richness this dynamic adds to texts. Resetting the way we think and learn about literature, her book reads current literary theory while uniquely tracing its shaping of a genre.

Inside Counselling PDF
By:Anthony Crouch
Published on 1997-06-27 by SAGE

`Anthony Crouch examines the internal and subjective reality of being a counsellor. Using a series of vignettes, rather than case studies, Crouch builds in all participant perspectives, counsellor, client and supervisor... [the book] proves to be eminently readable, like a good novel. And like a good novel, as opposed to merely a |good read|, it takes the reader into the world of its characters so that we might understand them. From the outset, Crouch asserts that the effective counsellor is one who can enter the intimate subjectivity of the client and use that reality as a catalyst for change and growth. By the same token the counsellor should grow through that interaction. The book also contains a series of challenging personal development exercises which the author invites the reader to undertake' - Counselling and Psychotherapy, The Journal of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy This innovative and creative book explores the experience of becoming and being a counsellor, and engaging in the therapeutic process. The book enters the internal, subjective world of counselling through its characters: students, counsellors, clients, supervisors and the author himself. It weaves together their perspectives and uses `talk' as its main medium - the talk of counselling and supervision sessions, training groups, workshops and students' journals. In so doing, the book breaks away from traditional methods and conventions to present complex theories, difficult concepts and serious information in an engaging, focused and manageable way. The book encourages readers to think subjectively, to question theories that come solely from outside, and to stay with and use their internal world as the main focus of counselling work. It also provides personal development exercises to help readers access long-forgotten feelings.

Book The American Paradox PDF Free

The American Paradox PDF
By:David G. Myers
Published on 2008-10-01 by Yale University Press

DIVFor Americans entering the twenty-first century, it is the best of times and the worst of times. Material wealth is at record levels, yet disturbing social problems reflect a deep spiritual poverty. In this compelling book, well-known social psychologist David G. Myers asks how this paradox has come to be and, more important, how we can spark social renewal and dream a new American dream. Myers explores the research on social ills from the 1960s through the 1990s and concludes that the materialism and radical individualism of this period have cost us dearly, imperiling our children, corroding general civility, and diminishing our happiness. However, in the voices of public figures and ordinary citizens he now hears a spirit of optimism. The national dialogue is shifting—away from the expansion of personal rights and toward enhancement of communal civility, away from efforts to raise self-esteem and toward attempts to arouse social responsibility, away from “whose values?” and toward “our values.” Myers analyzes in detail the research on educational and other programs that deal with social problems, explaining which seem to work and why. He then offers positive and well-reasoned advice, suggesting that a renewed social ecology for America will rest on policies that balance “me thinking” with “we thinking.”/div
