Happy Ever After? PDF
By:Bruce Stevens,Malise Arnstein
Published on 2011 by Australian Academic Press

Mary has brought Mark, recently returned from war service in Afghanistan, into counselling because of concerns for his gambling and how much it is costing the family. Is his military service playing some role in the increase in his gambling? Kylie has a problem with her anger. Brett is threatening to leave if her aggression is not better contained. Is her irritability that of an untreated depression or perhaps the brooding anger of a borderline personality disorder? Bettina is taking Lithium for bi-polar disorder and has just come out of hospital after a two-week admission related to her anorexia, and there is a need to closely monitor her weight. Natalie, her partner, is feeling highly stressed. She loves Bet, but feels overwhelmed be a responsibility to keep her alive. What support and guidance is best for Bettina? Much relationship counselling today is conducted by generalist psychologists, social workers, and counsellors. Yet there is a strong case for a greater role for clinical psychologists. Accurate assessment during couples therapy is essential, the dynamics between people are complex, and the process is potentially very demanding of clinical skills. This book provides an opportunity to make the argument for greater involvement in relationship counselling by the clinical psychology profession and to guide both clinical students and practitioners toward an informed and integrated approach to relationship counselling, drawing on the best evidence-based treatments.

The Undoing Project: A Friendship That Changed Our Minds PDF
By:Michael Lewis
Published on 2016-12-06 by W. W. Norton & Company

“Brilliant. . . . Lewis has given us a spectacular account of two great men who faced up to uncertainty and the limits of human reason.” —William Easterly, Wall Street Journal Forty years ago, Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original papers that invented the field of behavioral economics. One of the greatest partnerships in the history of science, Kahneman and Tversky’s extraordinary friendship incited a revolution in Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made much of Michael Lewis’s own work possible. In The Undoing Project, Lewis shows how their Nobel Prize–winning theory of the mind altered our perception of reality.

Book The Angry Therapist PDF Free

The Angry Therapist PDF
By:John Kim
Published on 2017-04-18 by Parallax Press

Tackling relationships, career, and family issues, John Kim, LMFT, thinks of himself as a life-styledesigner, not a therapist. His radical new approach, that he sometimes calls “self-help in a shot glass” is easy, real, and to the point. He helps people make changes to their lives so that personal growth happens organically, just by living. Let’s face it, therapy is a luxury. Few of us have the time or money to devote to going to an office every week. With anecdotes illustrating principles in action (in relatable and sometimes irreverent fashion) and stand-alone practices and exercises, Kim gives readers the tools and directions to focus on what's right with them instead of what's wrong. When John Kim was going through the end of a relationship, he began blogging as The Angry Therapist, documenting his personal journey post-divorce. Traditional therapists avoid transparency, but Kim preferred the language of |me too| as opposed to |you should.| He blogged about his own shortcomings, revelations, views on relationships, and the world. He spoke a different therapeutic language —open, raw, and at times subversive — and people responded. The Angry Therapist blog, that inspired this book, has been featured in The Atlantic Monthly and on NPR.

Donald Winnicott and John Bowlby PDF
By:Judith Issroff,Christopher Reeves,Bruce Hauptman
Published on 2005 by Karnac Books

|Bowlby and Winnicott's students give us new perspectives in a lively, authentic and scholarly picture of these important figures, whose influence and major contributions to many fields is immense. I welcome this informative, entertaining and thought-provoking book and I hope that it will be widely read.| --Dr. Mario Marrone John Bowlby and Donald Winnicott were two of the most notable twentieth century pioneers in the application of psychoanalysis to child development and family studies. A series of essays, written by former students of both men, provides insight into the way they approached their work, in addition to novel and clarifying commentaries on their ideas. The book covers such subjects as the problems of antisocial children, separation, loss, and grief. It pays attention to the social context and dimension of Bowlby and Winnicott's work and includes a novel examination of their contributions to the 1945 Curtis Committee's deliberations leading to the landmark 1948 Children's Act in Great Britain. Their different personalities and scientific attitudes are brought out in a lively and anecdotal way. The book ends with an extensive bibliography that links their own individual work not only to each other, but also to the many and varied strands of research and reflection that owe their origin to D.W. Winnicott and John Bowlby.

Book Moving Beyond Individualism in Pastoral Care and Counseling PDF Free

Moving Beyond Individualism in Pastoral Care and Counseling PDF
By:Barbara J. McClure
Published on 2010-01-01 by Wipf and Stock Publishers

Despite astute critiques and available resources for alternative modes of thinking and practicing, individualism continues to be a dominating and constraining ideology in the field of pastoral psychotherapy and counseling. Philip Rieff was one of the first to highlight the negative implications of individualism in psychotherapeutic theories and practices. As heirs and often enthusiasts of the Freudian tradition of which Rieff and others are critical, pastoral theologians have felt the sting of his charge, and yet the empirical research that McClure presents shows that pastoral-counseling practitioners resist change. Their attempts to overcome an individualistic perspective have been limited and ineffective because individualism is embedded in the field's dominant theological and theoretical resources, practices, and organizational arrangements. Only a radical reappraisal of these will make possible pastoral counseling practices in a post-individualistic mode. McClure proposes several critical transformations: broadening and deepening the operative theologies used to guide the healing practice, expanding the role of the pastoral counselor, reimagining the operative anthropology, reclaiming sin and judgment, nuancing the particular against the individual, rethinking the ideal outcome of the practices, and reimagining the organizational structures that support the practices. Only this level of revisioning will enable this ministry of the church to move beyond its individualistic limitations and offer healing in more complex, effective, and socially adequate ways.

As an often insecure mum of two children herself and a clinical psychologist, Dr Tanya Byron knows about parenting from both a professional and personal perspective. Rather than separate the two, Tanya infuses her professional knowledge with personal insight and the result is advice that really does work. She offers the practical tools to deal with any situation or behaviour, and also helps parents to understand the whys and have the confidence to handle anything life as a parent throws their way. This is the ultimate guide to positive parenting. Tanya's hope is that once a parent has read her book, they won't need her or anyone else's advice again - because they will trust and believe in their own instincts, and follow the signs their child gives them.
