Clinical Neuropsychology PDF
By:Mark Edward Maruish,James A. Moses
Published on 1997 by Psychology Press

With the emergence of clinical neuropsychology as one of the fastest growing specialties in psychology comes the need for current and future practitioners to stay abreast of the most recent research. A number of professional journals more than adequately meet this need. But, there is also a need to stay up to date on the current thinking about important problems. Drawing upon the expertise of leaders in the field, the editors' intent in this book was to provide the practitioner with a source for discussions of topics that are vital to their ongoing development as clinical neuropsychologists but that generally are not addressed in the literature to any great degree.

Help you become more conscious, aware, loving, and compassionate. Improve your interpersonal relationships. Facilitate your journey of personal and spiritual growth. Early Acclaim for The Button Therapy Book Improve Your Quality of Life and Parenting Skills The Button Therapy Book has made an incredible difference in my attitude and my life. I am able to relax more and don't get as uptight or angry as I used to. I have always been a person who had my |Buttons pushed| fairly easily and now I understand how to identify my Buttons, address them in a calm and loving way and most importantly, get rid of them. I've also been able to take the information given in the book and pass it on to my children to help them overcome their |Buttons.| Dr. Goodwin gives the reader all the tools they need to live happier, healthier lives, starting immediately! I highly recommend this book, it is a must for any person who is interested in improving his or her quality of life and getting rid of those buttons! Jodie Wilkerson from Greenville, NC Get Ready to Unbutton and Be Free! Button Therapy, a 'MUST HAVE' for any mental health professional and/or the lay person. I have found many insights in this book and I have recommended it to just about everyone I know. I think that Dr. Goodwin has hit the 'button on the head', and has loosened it's thread with his insightful, caring explanation of our 'Buttons' and how to deal with them. I find myself referring to it regularly in my business. Thanks Lloyd, I am happier, my clients are happier and we all understand others and ourselves better now that we have read your book. We will all be looking forward to your next work! Suzanne Osborne, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist, Criminal Profiler, Counselor from North Myrtle Beach, SC A Model for Personal and Spiritual Growth The Button Therapy Book is a creative synthesis of Eastern and Western models for personal and spiritual growth. An incredible compilation and synthesis of psychological self-help techniques. You would have to read 10 books to get the information and number of self-help techniques presented in this book. I've personally benefited from applying this practical six-step self-help model to some of my Buttons. The chapter titled |30 Seeds for Your Mind's Garden| is worth the price of this book alone. The |30 Seeds| are guidelines that have been helpful in my journey of personal and spiritual growth. Planting these |life-enhancing seeds| into the gardens of our minds enables us to become more conscious, aware, loving, and compassionate. This is simply the best psychological self-help book I've ever read. I've already recommended this book to my friends. An excellent read! Patricia Pollard, M.P.A., Administrator from Health Sciences Personnel, Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC Button Therapy Book: Good for Self-Helpers and Professionals Goodwin has written a very readable book, which includes a thorough compilation of respected authors, therapists, and philosophers. Those views, augmented with his many years of counseling experience, provide a useful theoretical and practical book for both the mental health professional as well as the individual seeking a good self-help reference and guide, including inventories in the appendix. Stephen K. Creech, Ph.D., Mental Health Professional and Musician from Winterville, NC. Button Therapy I was excited to see three decades of counseling theories, approaches, and strategies in mind-body therapy, brought together in one resource that is readable and accessible for either the lay-reader or counseling professional. This book is unique because it combines psychological research with very usable self-assessments and self-help techniques that can be applied in the |real world|. The element that I found most helpful are the |30 Seeds for Your Mind's Garden| in Chapter 21. This presents a summary and cognitive guideline of living life most effectively to its fullest potential. Mark Stebnicki, Rh.D., LPC, CRC, CDMS Professor and Director, Rehabilitation Counselor Education Program, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC A Fantastic Book A super way to learn how to deal with all the Buttons and Button-Pushers in your life. Learn to be a happier, healthier and hopefully a better person all around. Ned Petrak, Financial Advisor, Goldsboro, NC CONGRATULATIONS!!! Congratulations Dr. Goodwin! You've done a wonderful job. I like the holistic nature of this cognitive behavior therapy model. The vast majority of clients I have worked with, see themselves as pawns in this world being blown from one situation to the other with minimal control. They often experience their emotions and actions as responsive to external forces rather than behavioral choices over which they have control. The Button Therapy Book teaches that the locus of most situations is internal and therefore, under our control. Most of us are spiritually empty. I am very positive that they will be able to fill that spiritual void by reading The Button Therapy Book. I will recommend this book to any mental health professional I know. Agyenim A-Boateng, M.S., CRC, CCAS, LPC, Mental Health Professional from Pinehurst, NC An Excellent Guide To Feeling Good! The Button Therapy Book provides techniques that will immediately lift your spirits and help you develop a positive outlook on life. Everyone has Buttons and Button-Pushers. Dr. Goodwin provides a framework to recognize the cognitions (i.e. thoughts, beliefs, etc.) attached to Buttons that produce negative results. Through the 21 Button removal strategies described in the book empowerment is accessible. A great |tool box| for those working in the mental health field as well as for anyone seeking personal growth. If you have the desire to dance to the music of the universe instead of dancing every time somebody pushes your Buttons, buy it, read it, you deserve it! Sharon Williams from Washington, NC Tired of Getting Your Buttons Pushed? The Button Therapy Book is an excellent 'life enhancement manual'. I highly recommend it. Its foundations are based on the teachings of Buddha, Jesus Christ and Ken Keyes Jr. The Button Therapy Book also nicely wraps up the 'best of the best' literature from prominent psychologists, philosophers, and modern day shamans. The fewer 'Buttons

The Male Survivor PDF
By:Matthew Parynik Mendel
Published on 1995 by SAGE

This landmark study examines the largest clinical sample to date of male survivors of sexual abuse in childhood. Using data from his nationwide North American survey, the author reveals that such abuse is extensive, thus dispelling myths regarding the invulnerability of males. Mendel argues that various societal myths have led to a profound under-recognition of male childhood sexual abuse. He proposes that increased attention to, and acknowledgement of, male victimization is needed in order to reduce both the stigma and isolation of male survivors and the incidence of abuse. The author also suggests modifications to conceptual frameworks related to the long-term impact of childhood sexual abuse to apply specifically to male

Generalized Anxiety Disorder PDF
By:Craig Marker,Alison Aylward
Published on 2011 by Hogrefe Publishing

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a debilitating disorder that has often proved difficult to treat. Advances in conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment now allow an empirically supported approach to its diagnosis and treatment. After briefly outlining theoretical models, this clear and concise book presents an integrative, up-to-date treatment protocol for GAD. Suitable both for practitioners and for students, it guides readers through assessment and differential diagnosis, etiological models such as cognitive avoidance, positive beliefs about worry, and intolerance of uncertainty, and treatment techniques. The therapeutic approach described here integrates techniques from CBT, mindfulness- and acceptance-based therapy, as well as motivational interviewing. This practical volume is rounded off by case vignettes, handouts, questionnaires, and other useful tools.

Are You My Mother? PDF
By:Alison Bechdel
Published on 2012-05-01 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

From the best-selling author of Fun Home, Time magazine’s No. 1 Book of the Year, a brilliantly told graphic memoir of Alison Bechdel becoming the artist her mother wanted to be. Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home was a pop culture and literary phenomenon. Now, a second thrilling tale of filial sleuthery, this time about her mother: voracious reader, music lover, passionate amateur actor. Also a woman, unhappily married to a closeted gay man, whose artistic aspirations simmered under the surface of Bechdel's childhood . . . and who stopped touching or kissing her daughter good night, forever, when she was seven. Poignantly, hilariously, Bechdel embarks on a quest for answers concerning the mother-daughter gulf. It's a richly layered search that leads readers from the fascinating life and work of the iconic twentieth-century psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott, to one explosively illuminating Dr. Seuss illustration, to Bechdel’s own (serially monogamous) adult love life. And, finally, back to Mother—to a truce, fragile and real-time, that will move and astonish all adult children of gifted mothers.

By:Harold Bloom
Published on 2003-10-01 by Grand Central Publishing

What is genius? It is the trait, says Harold Bloom, of standing both of and above an age, the ancient principle that recognizes and hallows the God within us, and the gift of breathing life into what is best in every living person. Now, in a monumental achievement of scholarship, America's preeminent literary critic presents an unprecedented celebration of one hundred of the most creative literary minds in history. From the Bible to Socrates, through the transcendent masterpieces of Shakespeare and Dante, down through the ages to Hemingway, Faulkner, and Ralph Ellison, Harold Bloom explores the many parallels among his chosen geniuses and the surprising ways in which they have influenced one another over the centuries. Accompanied by revealing excerpts from their works that continue to astonish, enchant, and move readers, Bloom's insightful and spirited analyses illuminate and enlarge our common understanding of Western literary and spiritual culture...and offer us a grand yet intimate tour of it in one magnificent volume.

By:John Dufresne
Published on 2008-07-17 by W. W. Norton & Company

In the tragicomic mode of his best-selling Louisiana Power & Light, a hilarious and tenderhearted novel about a son's attempts to save his family. John Dufresne takes us to Requiem, Mass., heart of the Commonwealth, where Johnny's mom, Frances, is driving in the breakdown lane once again. She thinks Johnny and his little sister Audrey have been replaced by aliens; she's sure of it, and she's pretty certain that she herself is already dead, or she wouldn't need to cover the stink of her rotting flesh with Jean Naté Apres Bain. Dad, truck driver and pathological liar, is down South somewhere living his secret life. And Audrey, when she's not walking her cat Deluxe in a baby stroller, spends her time locked in a closet telling herself stories. Johnny, meanwhile, is hell-bent on saving the family from itself. In his |truly original voice| (Miami Herald) and with the |miraculous beauty of his tale-telling| (New York Times Book Review), Dufresne brings his unparalleled eye for the tragic and the absurd to the dysfunctions and joys of family in this powerful new novel.

Conversations with Jeremiah on the Magic of Counseling PDF
By:Ph. D. Geoffrey G. Yager
Published on 2009-01-01 by

Conversations with Jeremiah on the Magic of Counseling by Geoffrey G. Yager, Ph.D.: A non-traditional introduction to counseling with a special focus on counselor self-care. Conversations with Jeremiah on the Magic of Counseling is not a typical textbook. It is a unique approach to teaching, written in a conversational and casual style in order to engage students. The book describes the weekly meetings of two young counseling graduate students and their mysterious mentor over the course of the academic year. The mentor answers the questions of his protgs using thirty illustrative stories. The underlying themes of the stories encompass the crucial components of counseling relationships, and the topics cover the concerns most commonly voiced by students during their early experiences with actual clients. The issues addressed include counselor self-care, the nature of counseling, empathy, perfectionism, ethics, and, of course, the magic of counseling! Although the text is written from a counseling point of view, it will prove useful to any clinical class in a closely related field, such as counseling psychology, clinical psychology, clinical social work, health promotion, or psychiatric nursing. The text will also be beneficial to counselor trainees, experienced counselors interested in a refresher on basic skills, and potential clients who want to know more about counseling before they start seeing a counselor.

Somatic Psychology PDF
By:Linda Hartley
Published on 2004-08-13 by Wiley

This book brings attention to the interface of psychotherapy and psychological theory with the somatic practices of bodywork and movement therapy. To offer a client only psychotherapy, or only bodywork may subtly or directly reinforce the body-mind split from which so many of us suffer; in some cases this will be a reinforcement of a dilemma central to the client's problems. Hartley views body psychotherapy and transpersonal psychotherapy as building bridges between the once separated processes of psyche, soma, and spirit. Today the emerging field of somatic psychology is also contributing to the expanded field of psychology a subtle differentiation of bodymind process, developed through almost a century and a half of research and practice in somatic therapy and education. Originally trained as a dancer, movement therapist and bodywork practitioner, Hartley continues to use movement and somatic process as an important foundation for her own work. Training in Dance Movement Therapy, the transpersonal psychotherapy of Psychosynthesis, and Process-Oriented Psychology have further deepened Hartley's awareness of the relationships between psyche, soma and spirit, and the need to respond to all levels of experience in therapeutic work.
