Escaping the Journey to Nowhere PDF
By:Glenn D. Walters
Published on 1994 by Taylor & Francis US

(Publisher-supplied data) Drug abuse is a serious national health concern that costs American society billions of dollars and countless lives each year. Though it attracts the attention of politicians, mental health professionals, the media and members of the general public, little real progress has been made toward understanding the nature of the problem. Providing a perspective on alcohol and other drug abuse that should be of value to practitioners, course instructors, and students of psychology, counselling and sociology, this book should also be useful for anyone interested in developing a comprehensive understanding of substance abuse difficulties and their treatment. The organizing theme is that drug abuse can be conceptualized as a lifestyle, in which the individual demonstrates an increasing level of both commitment and preoccupation with drug-related activities, goals and relationships.; The lifestyle model considers three primary categories of influence in offering a working model of drug- seeking behaviour. These three factors, commonly referred to as the |three C's|, are conditions internal and external influences that increase or decrease a person's future risk of abusing drugs, choice decision-making processes of an individual, and cognition thinking patterns the individual uses to justify his or her decisions and subsequent drug use behaviour.; The first section of this book probes biological, psychological, and sociological roots of drug abuse, and is followed by a discussion of developmental origins, features and progressions of drug lifestyle involvement. Finally, potential avenue of intervention and prevention are investigated in an effort to construct a comprehensive programme of lifestyle change. Applicable case studies are also examined in relation to these issues.

Principles of Forensic Report Writing PDF
By:Michael Karson,Lavita Nadkarni
Published on 2013 by Amer Psychological Assn

|In teaching forensic report writing to graduate students, we have been impressed with the available guides to writing specific kinds of reports. There are also some good summary articles on report writing and check-lists regarding what reports ought to cover. What we wanted, though, was a single volume that looked at report writing and reading as behaviors, informed by what we know about behavior, and that looked in-depth at the topic of applying general knowledge to particular situations. As is true for so many authors, this is the book we wish we'd read in graduate school. We offer these principles of forensic report writing as preparation for trainees, particularly those in Stages 1-3 of the developmental scheme described here, and also as reminders for professionals who have already written many reports|--Preface. Everyday Creativity and New Views of Human Nature PDF
By:Ruth Richards
Published on 2007-01-01 by Amer Psychological Assn

|What is everyday creativity? A capacity, a strategy, a process, all of these. It is a capability that is an intimate part of our daily lives and our personalities, yet it remains, for most of us, underdeveloped and, unfortunately, underacknowledged. Editor and leading creativity researcher Ruth Richards writes, |Everyday creativity is...fundamental to our very survival. With our everyday creativity, we adapt flexibly, we improvise, we try different options, whether we are raising a child, counseling a friend, fixing our home, or planning a fundraising event.| In this provocative collection, an interdisciplinary group of eminent thinkers offer their thoughts on how embracing creativity--tapping into the |originality of everyday life|--an lead to improved physical and mental health and to new ways of thinking and experiencing the world and ourselves. They show how our creativity can help us live |in the moment,| refine our views of human nature at an individual and a societal level, find spiritual meaning, and, ultimately, change our paradigms for survival-and for flourishing-in a world fraught with urgent challenges. Neither a dry treatise nor a manual, this anthology draws upon the latest research in the area to present a lively examination of the phenomenon and process of everyday creativity and its far-reaching ramifications for self, society, politics, human and cultural evolution, and our future|--Jacket. Book Jung’s Personality Theory Quantified PDF Free

Jung’s Personality Theory Quantified PDF
By:Douglass J. Wilde
Published on 2011-01-06 by Springer Science & Business Media

Jung's Personality Theory Quantified fills an urgent need for professionals using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) to map it on to the cognitive modes of Jung’s personality theory, avoiding potential logical errors in the traditional “type dynamics” method. It furthers Jung’s original concepts while placing them on a solid axiomatic basis not possessed by other personality theories. Bringing these quantitative findings to the millions of MBTI users – managers, consultants, counsellors, teachers, psychoanalysts and human resource professionals – will require further education of those already certified to administer the instrument according to type dynamics. For this reason numerical exercises follow most chapters to make the book a source reference for briefer workbooks usable in enhanced certification programs. Backed by quantitative theory and new graphical methods, the pioneering qualitative typology work of Myers and Briggs is thus extended to yield deeper understanding of the vital topics of human personality, creativity and human relations. Jungian psychoanalysts may find Jung's Personality Theory Quantified helpful in organizing complicated clinical information and it can also enhance the work of MBTI practitioners worldwide.
